About This Service

Professional Tree Trimming Services

Regular trimming keeps a tree healthy, safe, and the right size for its space. Left alone, trees outgrow gardens, block light, overhang boundaries and buildings, and shed weak or dead branches — all of which trimming manages. We carry out tree trimming across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire: pruning to shape and health, crown reduction and thinning to control size and let light through, deadwooding, and clearing branches off boundaries, fences, and structures.

K.A.B Fencing handles routine tree trimming and maintenance as part of our landscaping and garden work — particularly where trees overhang a boundary we're fencing, shade a garden we're making over, or simply need keeping in check. We work safely, cut cleanly so the tree heals well, and clear all the arisings away. For very large, dangerous, or protected trees there are limits and rules (see below) — we'll always tell you honestly when a job is one for a specialist tree surgeon rather than pressing ahead. We'll assess the trees at a free site visit and quote in writing.

Pruning, shaping, and crown work

Most tree trimming is about size and shape: crown reduction (taking the overall height and spread back to keep a tree in proportion to its space), crown thinning (removing some inner growth to let light and air through without changing the shape much), and general pruning to a clean, balanced form. Done at the right time and with clean cuts, this keeps a tree healthy and attractive and stops it overwhelming a garden. We cut back to the right points so the tree heals well rather than throwing out weak, messy regrowth.

Deadwooding and safety trimming

Dead, diseased, broken, or hanging branches are a hazard — they fall, and they're worst in the wind. Removing them (deadwooding) makes a tree safer and healthier and is one of the most worthwhile bits of trimming. We also trim back branches that have become a risk or nuisance: rubbing on a roof or gutter, overhanging a drive or path, pressing on a fence, or blocking a window or light. The aim is a tidy, safe tree, not a butchered one.

Boundary and fence-line clearance

This is where tree work and our fencing cross over most. Branches overhanging a boundary, growth pushing into or over a fence, or a tree shading the line where a new fence is going often need cutting back before or alongside fencing work. We clear the boundary so the fence can go in cleanly and so the tree isn't sitting on it. You're entitled to trim growth overhanging your boundary back to the line (the cuttings legally belong to the tree's owner) — we'll handle it properly and tidily as part of the job.

Big trees, TPOs, and when to call a specialist

Honesty matters here. Routine trimming, reduction, thinning, deadwooding, and boundary clearance are well within what we do. But large, structurally significant, or dangerous tree work — and full felling of big trees — is specialist tree-surgeon territory, and we'll tell you straight when a job is one for a qualified arborist rather than us. There are also legal protections: trees can be covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or sit in a conservation area, in which case you need the council's consent before cutting — we'll flag if that's likely and you should check with the local authority first. We won't carry out work that needs consent without it.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What tree trimming do you do?
Pruning to shape and health, crown reduction (controlling height and spread), crown thinning (letting light and air through), deadwooding (removing dead or dangerous branches), and clearing branches off boundaries, fences, drives, and buildings. Routine trimming and maintenance — done cleanly so the tree heals well.
Do you remove (fell) whole trees?
We handle routine trimming, reduction, thinning, and boundary clearance. Large, dangerous, or structurally significant tree work and full felling of big trees is specialist tree-surgeon territory, and we'll tell you straight when a job needs a qualified arborist rather than us. We'd rather point you to the right person than take on something that needs specialist kit and training.
Can you cut back a neighbour's tree overhanging my garden?
You're generally entitled to trim growth that overhangs your boundary back to the boundary line, and we can do that tidily — though the cuttings legally belong to the tree's owner. If the tree is protected (TPO or conservation area) you'd need council consent first. We'll advise and handle the trimming properly as part of the job, often alongside fencing the boundary.
What if the tree has a TPO or is in a conservation area?
Then you need the local authority's consent before any work, and we won't carry out work that requires consent without it. We'll flag if a TPO or conservation area is likely and point you to check with the council first. Once any consent is in place, we can do the agreed trimming.
Do you clear away the branches afterwards?
Yes — clearing and disposing of all the arisings is part of the job. You're left with a tidy garden, not a pile of branches. Responsible disposal is included in the quote.
Do you do tree trimming across Nottinghamshire?
Yes — we carry out tree trimming and boundary clearance throughout Nottingham and the surrounding Nottinghamshire towns and villages, usually as part of our garden and fencing work. Ring us to arrange a free site visit — and we'll be honest if a job is one for a specialist.
