A proper installation excavates down, lays and compacts a stone sub-base and a sharp-sand laying course for a true, free-draining foundation, with a weed membrane to stop anything growing through. The grass is then laid, joined with proper seaming tape and adhesive at any joins so they're invisible and don't lift, fixed at the edges, and brushed with a kiln-dried sand infill that weights it down, supports the pile, and helps it drain. That groundwork is where a lawn that lasts is made.

Artificial grass comes into its own exactly where real grass struggles. For dogs, it's hard-wearing, doesn't turn to mud, and rinses clean. For children, it's a soft, even, always-usable play surface with no bare patches.
